Project Description
Nestled in George, the Garden Route Botanical Gardens is the site of a unique restoration experiment closely monitored by Greenpop. In 2019, 1000 trees were planted in three different plots each with a different density of pioneer tree species: 25%, 50%, and 75% respectively.
Stakeholders and local communities involved in the project
The Garden Route Botanical Garden. Members of the public who visit the Botanical Gardens are encouraged to photograph the restoration sites (in specially marked locations) to track the progress of these sites using citizen science.
Project Goals
The goal of this project is to identify the ideal pioneer tree species planting density (in the Garden Route) to maximise restoration outcomes.
