Project Description
The project focuses on agroforestry practices in Tierra Amarilla, Nicaragua, aiming to establish 500 trees to revitalize the watershed area. It promotes community involvement in reforestation, supporting biodiversity, and enhancing local ecosystems. By planting native and fruit-bearing trees, it seeks to protect water sources, improve soil health, and offer economic benefits to the community through potential fruit sales and carbon credits. This approach blends environmental conservation with sustainable development, demonstrating a holistic model for rural community empowerment and ecological restoration.
Stakeholders and local communities involved in the project
The stakeholders in this project include the local communities, Mr. Wilmer Sánchez (as it's his plantation), and the broader environmental conservation community. Local communities are deeply involved through participatory approaches, from planning and planting to long-term care and monitoring of trees. This collaboration ensures that reforestation efforts align with local needs and contribute to sustainable livelihoods, making the project a community-driven initiative aimed at environmental restoration and economic development.
Project Goals
In addition to reforestation, the project's goals are to protect water sources, improve soil health, and offer economic benefits to the community through potential fruit sales and carbon credits.
Co-benefits
The expected co-benefits from the project activities include enhanced biodiversity, improved water source protection, soil stabilization, and increased carbon sequestration. Additionally, the project aims to provide social benefits such as community engagement in environmental conservation, education on sustainable practices, and potential economic benefits through agroforestry and carbon credits, contributing to a holistic approach to ecological restoration and community development.
