Project Description
The project is located on a flat field planted with native species, including amapola, madre cacao, jocote jobo, palo de jiote, aceituno, jocote sirin, jocote tronador, copal, pimienta, chicozapote, jobillo, santa maria, laurel, jabin, ramon, caoba, rosul, pino caribea, and tacuayun, with an average density of 520 trees per hectare.
Planting began in November 2022. The estate is surrounded by natural forest and is traversed by an internal road from the farm.
Stakeholders and local communities involved in the project
The communities benefiting from the project include the Gracias a Dios Village, located 500 meters away and home to 46 families, as well as the Nuevo Amanecer Village, situated 5 kilometers away with a population of 330 families.
Project Goals
The project’s objectives are to regenerate the land in a sustainable and beneficial way, creating sources of employment while positively contributing to environmental conservation and helping to mitigate climate change.
Co-benefits
The project aims to capture carbon dioxide and generate oxygen, while also contributing to groundwater recharge in the region—particularly along the slope of the El Subín River, a tributary of the La Pasión River, which in turn feeds into the Usumacinta River flowing into the Gulf of Mexico.
