Project Description
Agro-Map is a nature-based solution company specializing in implementing sustainable development projects with a socio-economic and environmental impact for the project beneficiaries.
The company has been operating since 2018. It operates in Abidjan, Congo, and just recently in Ghana. We are on a mission to promote sustainable agricultural practices to combat climate change in the cocoa, coffee, oil palm, cotton, cashew, and other food crop sectors.
In the Republic of Congo, with financial support from ON A MISSION, AGRO-MAP is developing a Reforestation and Community Agroforestry project in the Ignié district, village of Liko, covering an area of 10ha/year.
Stakeholders and local communities involved in the project
The project's stakeholders are the communities and riparian groups in the project area.
Communities will be involved in all activities relating to the preparation of plantation and agroforestry plots, plot maintenance and tree planting.
Project Goals
The objective of this project is to participate in the restoration of the forest cover in the district of Ignié.
These are:
- Awareness and training of communities on the challenges of climate change, sustainable
development, and forest protection;
- Produce and supply forest seedlings;
- Establish 10ha of forestry and agroforestry plantation;
- Transform the vision of small producers into modern entrepreneurs;
- Monitor and maintain the agroforestry systems in place and the afforested plots.
Co-benefits
Afforestation and Reforestation. The forest plantations thus created will again be able to regulate the climatic cycles and bring back the rains to the region. Local communities will be able to obtain medicinal plants from the forest.
Creation of habitats for biodiversity. The forest plantations created will over time accommodate increased wildlife, which is now endangered.
Creation of synergy between trees and crops. Planted in agroforestry in food crop fields, leguminous trees will enrich the soil and protect crops; harvests will improve over the years. Local communities will be able to reduce fallow time through this cropping association.
Generation of timber and firewood. Sustainably managed by local communities, the trees planted will make it possible to produce wood for their personal use or for the generation of additional income through its sale.
